Readiness Review
The entry point to the FASE framework
The Readiness Review is the first stage of the FASE framework. It provides a structured, evidence-led assessment of a football club’s current sustainability position across governance, environmental management, stakeholder engagement, and transparency.

This stage is designed to establish clarity, not judgement
What the Readiness Review Is
The Readiness Review is a baseline assessment that helps clubs understand where they currently stand in relation to sustainability governance and practice.

It focuses on identifying strengths, gaps, and material risks, using a football-specific framework that reflects how clubs are governed and operated in practice.

The review does not assess compliance or performance against external benchmarks. Its purpose is to support informed internal understanding and prioritisation.

Why the Readiness Review Exists
Sustainability expectations in football are increasing. However, many clubs lack a clear, structured view of their current position.

The Readiness Review exists to bridge that gap.

It enables clubs to move beyond assumptions and self-declared ambition by providing a clear picture of governance maturity, evidential strength, and areas requiring attention, without imposing immediate solutions or obligations.
What the Review Considers
The Readiness Review considers sustainability through the four FASE pillars:

-
Governance – leadership structures, accountability, and decision-making
-
Environmental Management – policy frameworks and operational oversight
-
Stakeholder Engagement – structured engagement and accountability
-
Transparency & Financial Oversight – reporting, data integrity, and disclosure

Assessment is proportionate and contextual, recognising differences in club size, resources, and operating environment.
What Clubs Receive
The Readiness Review produces a structured output designed to support clarity and decision-making.

Clubs receive:

-
A readiness profile outlining current maturity across the four pillars
-
Identification of material gaps and areas of risk
-
High-level observations to support internal discussion and prioritisation

The output is intended for internal use and informed progression within the FASE framework.
Position Within the Framework
The Readiness Review acts as the foundation for progression within the FASE framework.

Findings from this stage inform whether further support through Targeted Advisory or progression to Assurance Assessment is appropriate, based on the club’s objectives, capacity, and risk profile.

Participation at this stage does not imply certification, endorsement, or regulatory approval.

Independence and Scope
The Readiness Review is an independent assessment stage.

It does not replace regulatory requirements or licensing obligations, nor does it constitute compliance assessment. Its purpose is to support understanding, readiness, and credible progression over time.
